PKMSC is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide educational experiences in a history rich environment located on a 5-acre island. Our programs are for all ages - elementary school to post graduate – and are designed and endorsed by some of the most respected marine scientists in the United States. The Teaching Team located on Pigeon Key are truly dedicated to the preservation of our natural resources through hands-on educational and leadership development programs for today’s students and tomorrow's leaders.

For nearly 15-years, PKMSC has provided private, customized programs to more than 30,000 participants from more than 1000 schools throughout the United States. Through these hands-on programs, participants complete extensive workshops on marine mammals, reef fish, our reef system, invertebrates as well as hard and soft corals found in the Florida/Caribbean waters. Participants also receive additional workshops on underwater photography and the gathering of specimens. These learning opportunities help to ensure students can record their findings through underwater observation (i.e. photography, journals, drawings, etc.). Time is also spent gathering specimens in the tidal waters that surround the Island. These specimens are gathered in touch tanks and then selected one-by-one by our Educational Team to monitor and highlight their role on the ecosystem.

"SEE A SAMPLE ITINERARY"

Most importantly, safety is always stressed, but at the same time, FUN!! As often as possible, participants are encouraged to be up and out of their seats gathered around a specimen, teaching tool or in the water, learning!

Through creative games and activities, all participants experience a learning environment that works for them and their individual learning styles.
